Program Description

The Professional Fellows for Governance and Society, South and Central Asia program, funded by the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, facilitates a valuable exchange between young professionals from India, Pakistan, Nepal, and the United States. The program focuses on the exchange of ideas, strategies, and best practices in the legislative process and policymaking.

Administered by World Learning, this initiative targets emerging leaders aged 25-40. Through a two-way exchange, participants engage in dialogue, share best practices, enhance leadership skills, and establish sustainable linkages with their professional counterparts. The program includes a professional fellowship with a U.S. organization or government office, providing firsthand experience of the U.S. legislative process.

Participants delve into civic life through various enrichment activities, including meetings with key stakeholders, dialogues, site visits, and participation in the Professional Fellows Congress, where they interact with over 200 fellows from 48 countries.

Themes and Topics: The program covers a range of themes and topics related to legislation and governance. These include but are not limited to good governance (e.g., transparency and anti-corruption), legislative processes, the role of women, minorities, and marginalized populations in civil society and politics, decentralization, youth engagement, development and strengthening of NGOs and civil society, post-conflict transitions, and non-violent civic participation.

Spring 2018 Application

The program is currently accepting applications for the Spring 2018 cycle. Prospective participants can apply by reaching out to megan.zacher@worldlearning.org or through the official program website.

This initiative stands as a testament to the commitment to fostering international collaboration and cultural exchange, creating a platform for emerging leaders to contribute to positive change in their respective countries.
