SITUATION VACANT (CONTRACT POSITIONS GLOF-II)
Project Background: The Glacier Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF)-II project aims to mitigate the risks associated with glacial lake outburst floods in vulnerable regions. The project focuses on developing a web portal for disaster-related datasets and simulations to enhance understanding, preparedness, and response capabilities.
Positions Available:
1. Programmers
- Number of Positions: 02
- Project Duration: 5 Months (Not extendable)
- Monthly Salary: Rs. 120,000/-
Qualifications and Experience: We seek a skilled Web GIS Developer with 3-4 years of relevant experience to join our team for an exciting five-month project. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in developing and maintaining web applications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Designing, developing, and implementing GIS web applications.
- Integrating GIS services with web applications using APIs.
- Performing spatial data analysis and visualization.
- Collaborating with GIS analysts to gather and analyze requirements.
- Designing and implementing database schemas.
- Troubleshooting and fixing bugs and errors.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 3-4 years of experience in web GIS development.
- Proficiency in GIS software and tools such as ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar.
- Strong programming skills in JavaScript, Python, HTML.
- Experience with GIS libraries and frameworks like Leaflet, OpenLayers, or similar mapping library.
- Familiarity with spatial databases such as PostGIS.
- Knowledge of web services and APIs (REST).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
2. Research Associate
- Number of Positions: 01
- Project Duration: 5 Months (Not extendable)
- Monthly Salary: Rs. 150,000/-
Qualifications and Experience:
- Graduate degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, or related discipline.
- 2-3 years of post-graduation experience in advanced hazard modeling, HVRA/MHVRA mapping & assessments, particularly in academic institutes, humanitarian/DRR agencies, or research institutes.
Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of hazard modeling using RAMMS.
- Experience with AGI Meta Shape Professional for drone image processing.
- Understanding of UAS/UAV for assessment and monitoring of remote hazards and their modeling.
- Ability to inquire and clarify all field-related technical data during fieldwork.
- Experience in collecting data on CGLRVA (Community-based Glacial Lake Risk Vulnerability Assessment), compiling, and analyzing field data.
- Expertise in identifying suitable interventions in target villages for GLOF adaptation and mitigation.
- Skills in modeling GLOFs using RAMMS and generating point & line-based profiles.
- Proficiency in using drones to create 3D models (DTM/DSM) for vulnerable sites to generate multiple scenarios through modeling.
- Capability to identify, investigate, map, and model all threatening and vulnerable GLOF sites and different elements at risk.
- Based on geographic, physiographic, and social scientific clues, identify appropriate Community-Based Early Warning Systems (CBEWS) and prepare communities accordingly.
- Ability to design and update assessment tools and carry out specific site assessments for risk analysis and assessment.
- Experience in identifying, prioritizing, and selecting hazard sites for structural mitigation and assessing their capacity.
- Good reporting and communication skills.
3. Student Assistants
- Number of Positions: 04
- Project Duration: 5 Months (Not extendable)
- Monthly Salary: Rs. 20,000/-
Qualifications:
- Basic understanding of GIS concepts and web development.
- Some experience or coursework in web GIS development, 3D modeling, or geological modeling.
- Familiarity with GIS software and tools such as ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar.
- Basic programming knowledge in JavaScript, Python, HTML, and CSS.
- Eagerness to learn and grow in a professional setting.
- Good communication and teamwork abilities.
Qualification:
- Bachelor’s in Geology, GIS, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or relevant field, or student of BS RS/GIS or Geology.
4. Research Assistant
- Number of Positions: 04
- Project Duration: 5 Months (Not extendable)
- Monthly Salary: Rs. 30,000/-
Qualifications:
- Basic understanding of CS concepts and web development.
- Some experience or coursework in web GIS development.
- Basic programming knowledge in JavaScript, Python, HTML, and CSS.
- Eagerness to learn and grow in a professional setting.
- Good writing, communication, and teamwork abilities.
Qualification:
- Bachelor’s in GIS or Computer Science, or relevant field, or student of BS CS.
