Littering is demolishing the beauty of Gilgit-BaltistanWritten By : Sana Gul |
Plastic is one of the biggest challenge that our country is facing. Plastic bags have been banned in various cities of Pakistan to minimize the pollution caused by it. These kinds of steps should be taken in Gilgit Baltistan as well. GB is known for its tourist attraction and recently hundreds and thousands of local tourists came from all over the country. These people left behind heaps of garbage and waste, thrown all over the state. Next time if you blame the government for being irresponsible, try to poke that finger at yourself because the negligence and irresponsibility shown by Pakistanis is alarming. Every inch of greenery and water bodies is covered with plastic bottles, wrappers, left over food and what not . As a resident of GB, I want this to stop, not only in Gilgit but all over the country. My suggestion is that the government should start taking 1000 - 1500 Ruppees from every tourist vehicle before they enter the state and use that money to clean the mess created by them. The tourist should also be advised to clean their surroundings by acting like mature, educated, civilized citizens. The residents of GB are not responsible for cleaning up someone else's mess. Law against violation of cleanliness of environment should be imposed and practiced strictly. This neglecting attitude must change. We must learn how to keep our surroundings clean because animals are better at this than us trust me. Be the change you wish to see in others
