Teaching Cheating

Confidence, courage and courtesy are few of the traits which make a person strong in character and lack of any of these can cause a personality crumble. There are many troubles which cause a person’s down fall and personality crashed but out of these all ‘lying’ is the mother of all evils and the foundation of ‘Lying’ are excuses which are taught at home by parents deliberately or unintentionally.
Mothers in presence of children, to avoid any argument or worries of father makes excuses and do not tell the truth which make children learn cheating. Again mother, to save children from any rebuke from father hide the little mistakes of children and advises kids to make excuses to father which leads kids to learn telling lie in later life. Similarly, father plans with kids to make excuses or tell lies and conceal the little mistakes to avoid anger/annoyance or arguments of mothers .These are not very big issue and mostly are damages of domestic appliances, poor result in a test, teachers poor remarks in a diary etc… and can be tackled by telling the truth and mutual understanding but we don’t think about their long term negative effects on children’s’ personality.
Siblings follow the footsteps of parents and fool each other, teachers, friends and their parents by making lame excuses and telling lies when any of siblings does a mistake. They don’t share it with parents in fear of getting scolded or any form of punishment and more importantly the way their parents taught them excuses as an easy solution. Siblings hide each other’s mistakes and wrong doing and teach each other excuses to avoid parents’ scolding which make them tell lies in future.
Later, parents and children do the same tricks with teachers. They ask their kids to make excuses in front of teachers to avoid a fine, missing home work absentee or any common weaknesses or mistakes/ errors by students. For example if children are absent without an application, parents guide them to tell the teacher that the kid is sick. This is a very foolish idea to make someone sick when one is not. When student don’t do their home work they come with excuses of parent’s bad health, guest’s visits, death of a close relative etc. And there are many example when students use to “kill” their relatives especially grandparents many times to remain absent from school and avoid punishments or fines. This results in children making lame excuses and they try to deceive both teachers and parents whenever they need.
This process doesn’t stop here, now whole the family does same with other families especially to the close relatives. They tell lies in front of other families and neighbors about their status, problem at home, failures, ceremonies etc just to impress others or to conceal their own shortcomings.
These excuses are become lame excuses and later lies which a child later in life cannot get rid of. This habit first shakes the confidence of person as they are always under a shadow of fear that their excuses may not be revealed and to avoid this situation they have to tell more lies and live in complete fear.
These habits make children cowards and they cannot even share their truths with other in fear of being caught .They usually avoid company of others in fear of being exposed and confined to their homes which damages their personality.
We need to tell truth and teach children to tell truth even truth causes damage once but in long term makes children confidant, courageous and courteous.
