The Hansen Summer Institute on Leadership and International Cooperation is an exciting international program generously funded by a grant from the Fred J. Hansen Foundation. From 2007 to 2017, eight three-week Institutes were held in San Diego, California during July. This program offers a unique University-based leadership experience focused on international cooperation.
Once again in July 2018, American men and women will have the opportunity to join students from various developing countries and regions experiencing social strife. Together, they will learn from experts and each other about conflict resolution and social entrepreneurship. To date, 194 Hansen Alumni from 61 countries have maintained contact, formed a supportive network, and collaborated on numerous social ventures funded by the Hansen Foundation. We are delighted to announce that the Hansen Summer Institute will welcome its ninth group of young leaders in July 2018 at the University of San Diego School of Leadership and Education Sciences (SOLES).
A primary goal of the program is to foster an international community of young scholars who will use their summer experience as a springboard for forging lasting friendships and gaining a shared practical vision of a more peaceful future. Fellows receive hands-on training in team-building, public speaking, negotiation, mediation, and collaborative problem-solving. They also learn active listening skills and how to identify common interests, thereby building realistic pathways to cooperation. Classroom instruction is complemented by local excursions to San Diego attractions such as Sea World, the Zoo, a 4th of July Independence Day parade, and a harbor cruise. Fellows have the opportunity to interact with academic, political, and business leaders to refine their ideas and skills, while gaining insights into the "American Way of Life."
Participants depart San Diego equipped with a "leadership toolbox" that they can effectively apply to navigate future challenges and pursuits. Students from all corners of the globe have forged lifelong friendships and charted their futures in a more positive direction through this program. Why not join them?
