Agricultural Specialist - Project Overview

Position Summary

The Agricultural Specialist will contribute significantly to the development of sustainable agricultural systems and ecosystem management in the Gilgit-Baltistan region. By working closely with local communities, the specialist will oversee the introduction of modern agricultural techniques, promote climate-smart agriculture, and implement renewable energy solutions. The role requires a balance of technical expertise, community engagement, and innovative approaches to address the challenges of land degradation, limited water resources, and the integration of technology into agricultural practices.


Key Responsibilities

1. Smart Agriculture and Innovation

  • Establishing Kitchen Gardens and Tunnel Farming: Lead the creation of kitchen gardens and tunnel farming infrastructures, enabling year-round vegetable cultivation. These interventions aim to improve household nutrition and provide an additional source of income for local communities.
  • Training in Fruit Drying Technologies:
    Organize training sessions for farmers to adopt fruit drying techniques, preserving produce and reducing post-harvest losses.
  • Promoting Seed Cultivation and Entrepreneurship:
    Equip farmers with knowledge on seed cultivation and encourage agricultural entrepreneurship to increase self-reliance and economic growth.
  • Value Chain Development:
    Develop strategies to connect local producers with markets, ensuring fair prices and the sustainability of small-scale agricultural businesses.

Qualifications and Skills

Education

Experience
