Recruitment of Education Fellows by the Education Department Through PDCN GB

The Education Department Gilgit-Baltistan, in collaboration with the Aga Khan University’s Professional Development Centre North (PDCN), has launched an initiative to improve the quality of education across the region. This program, known as the Education Fellows Program, is an integral part of efforts to enhance the standard of education, ensure equitable access to quality learning opportunities, and strengthen education governance in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Under this initiative, Education Fellows will be recruited to serve in schools and colleges across the region, especially in remote and underserved areas. The recruitment drive aims to fill remaining vacancies, ensuring that the project achieves its target of providing skilled educators in public educational institutions.


Background of the Education Fellows Program

The Education Fellows Program is a joint endeavor between the Aga Khan University Institute for Educational Development (AKU-IED), the School Education Department Gilgit-Baltistan, and a consortium of prestigious institutions including LUMS, KIU, and Knowledge Platform. This program is funded by the Gilgit-Baltistan government to address gaps in teaching resources and improve educational outcomes.

The goal is to hire and train 1200 Education Fellows across Gilgit-Baltistan. These fellows will work in schools and colleges, particularly in underprivileged and remote areas, to ensure that children receive high-quality education.


Open Positions and Locations

Applications are being invited for positions in the following categories:

1. School Education Positions

A total of 41 Education Fellows are needed to serve in government schools across several districts of Gilgit-Baltistan. Below are the details:

  • Hunza (4 Positions):
    • Shimshal Centre (3 Positions)
    • Farmanabad (1 Position)
  • Ghizer (5 Positions):
    • Thurulti Nalla (4 Positions)
    • Darmander Nalla (1 Position)
  • Gilgit (7 Positions):
    • Kargah (1 Position)
    • Chamogadh (5 Positions)
    • Gasho Pahot (1 Position)
  • Kharmung (6 Positions):
    • Kosuro (3 Positions)
    • Sikilma (1 Position)
    • Koltor Katisho (2 Positions)
  • Shiger (4 Positions):
    • Arindo (2 Positions)
    • Hoto Braldo (1 Position)
    • Chongo Braldo (1 Position)
  • Diamer (8 Positions):
    • Various villages including Saari Thour, Toper Hudur, and Tangir areas.

2. Government Girls Degree College Chilas, Diamer

Six Education Fellows are required for the following subjects:

  • Urdu
  • Mathematics
  • Physics
  • Islamiat
  • Pakistan Studies
  • Sociology

Only female candidates domiciled in Chilas are eligible for these positions.


Selection Criteria for School Education Positions

  1. First Preference:

    • Candidates with 16 years or more of education in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English, or Computer Science from an HEC-recognized institution.
  2. Second Preference:

    • Candidates with 16 years or more of education in other relevant fields (e.g., MPhil or MA in Education) if science subject candidates are unavailable.
  3. Third Preference:

    • Candidates with 14 years of education in science or other relevant subjects.
  4. Fourth Preference:

    • Candidates from marginalized or underserved areas with a minimum Intermediate qualification (12 years of education), preferably in science.

Selection Criteria for College Positions

  1. Eligibility:

    • Female candidates with a Master’s degree or higher in the required subjects.
    • Preference will be given to those with prior teaching experience in Government Girls College, Chilas.
  2. Additional Requirements:

    • Candidates must be willing to attend mandatory professional development training.
    • The contract for these positions will end on June 30, 2025.
