Hardiman PhD Scholarships 2018: Call for Applications

The prestigious Hardiman PhD Scholarships for 2018 are now open. These scholarships will provide a stipend of €16,000 per annum plus fees for four years.

Eligibility: These scholarships are for students commencing their PhD in September 2018. The fully funded scholarships, offering a stipend of €16,000 p.a. plus fees, are available for high-achieving individuals who demonstrate drive, passion, and a keen interest in the research world. Successful candidates should thrive on intellectual excitement and are expected to make a positive impact on shaping the future of society.

Applicant’s Guide:

  1. These scholarships are open to individuals seeking to pursue a Structured PhD focusing on the five key research areas where the University excels.

  2. Scholarships will only be awarded to those admitted to full-time structured PhD programs at NUI Galway.

  3. Applications will not be accepted from individuals currently registered as PhD students.

  4. Applications can be submitted in either English or Irish.

Application Procedure:

Step 1: Nominate a PhD Supervisor at NUI Galway

Applicants must nominate a PhD supervisor from the list provided on the website. It is advisable to contact potential supervisors and discuss research plans.

Step 2: Complete Scholarship Application

  1. A complete scholarship application includes filling out the application form and obtaining two academic reference forms.

  2. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

  3. An application is deemed incomplete if there is no application form, or if an incomplete form is received.

  4. The first application submitted to hrscholar@nuigalway.ie is final, and there can be no re-submission or changes after submission.

Step 3: Academic References

  1. Two academic reference forms indicating academic suitability and potential for undertaking the PhD are required.

  2. The applicant completes Section A of the Academic Reference Form and provides these to their referees.

  3. References from proposed supervisors will not be accepted.

  4. Referees complete Section B of the Academic Reference Form and submit it to hrscholar@nuigalway.ie by the closing date, which is 17:00 (GMT) on Friday, 16th February 2018.

  5. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that the two academic references are submitted by the deadline, and references are confidential.

The closing date for receipt of scholarship applications is Friday, 16th February 2018 (17:00 GMT) to hrscholar@nuigalway.ie.
