Confucius Institute Scholarship 2018 at Dongbei University of Finance and Economics (DUFE)
1. Overview: To foster qualified Chinese language teachers and promote Chinese language and culture, the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) introduces the "Confucius Institute Scholarship" (CIS). This scholarship supports exceptional students, scholars, and currently employed Chinese language teachers recommended by Confucius Institutes, independently operated Confucius Classrooms, and some HSK test centers to pursue studies at Chinese universities and colleges.
2. Host Institution: Dongbei University of Finance and Economics (DUFE), situated in Dalian, northeastern China, is renowned for finance, banking, and economics education. DUFE offers a vibrant academic environment and has over 20 years of experience in international education, hosting students from 100+ countries. DUFE is a designated host institution for China Government Scholarship, Confucius Institute Scholarship, and Liaoning Provincial Government Scholarship.
3. Eligibility Criteria:
- Non-Chinese citizens
- Good physical and mental condition
- Strong academic and behavioral performance
- Aspiring to pursue careers in teaching or international promotion of the Chinese language
- Ages 16-35 on September 1st, 2018 (Chinese language teachers not exceeding 45 and undergraduate students not exceeding 25)

5. Scholarship Coverage and Criteria: The Confucius Institute Scholarship covers tuition, accommodation, living allowance, and comprehensive medical insurance expenses. Living allowances are disbursed monthly, with a rate of 2,500 CNY for one-academic-year and one-semester study students. Comprehensive medical insurance is provided following China's Ministry of Education regulations.
6. Application Procedures:
- Online registration available from March 1, 2018, on the Confucius Institute Scholarship website.
- Log in, search for recommending institutions and host institutions (select "Dongbei University of Finance and Economics"), upload application materials, and track the application progress.
- Scholarship holders must confirm with DUFE, complete required procedures for studying in China, print CIS certificate online, and register at DUFE on the designated date.
7. Application Documents:
- Scanned copy of passport photo page
- Scanned copy of HSK and HSKK test score reports (within two-year validity)
- Recommendation letter from the head of the recommending institution
- Proof of employment and reference letter for Chinese language teachers
- Certified documents for applicants under 18, including designation signed by legal guardians in China.
8. Application Deadlines:

- December 20th (for March 2019 commencement)
